Blackheath Halls Opera is a community project, based at Blackheath Halls in South-East London, which gives local people and school children the chance to take part in the performance of a fully staged, professionally produced opera. The community works with a professional creative opera team and young professional opera singers.

The project began in 2007 with three sell out performances of Bizet’s Carmen with a cast of professional singers alongside more than 40 amateur singers, an orchestra of over 50 players and 300 local school children as well as local dancers, a marching band and a majorette troupe.

2008’s opera is Puccini’s La Bohème, a story of love, set amongst a group of struggling young bohemian artists. La Bohème offers another chance for a huge extravaganza, and there is an opportunity for everyone interested to take part. We need singers, dancers, instrumentalists and stage hands. You will find information about this project and how to take part on this website.
